Accreditation and ISO Rating

Accreditation
South Metro Fire Rescue is accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI). Accreditation is a comprehensive self-assessment and peer-review process that evaluates all aspects of fire department operations, governance, planning, resource deployment, community risk reduction, emergency response, training, and organizational performance.
Through the accreditation process, SMFR conducts a Community Risk Assessment and Standards of Cover analysis, develops a Strategic Plan and Self-Assessment Manual, and completes performance measurements and program evaluations to ensure services align with community risks and expectations. Accreditation demonstrates the department's commitment to transparency, data-informed decision-making, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Accredited agencies undergo a comprehensive reaccreditation review every five years and maintain annual compliance with CFAI standards to ensure ongoing organizational improvement. South Metro Fire Rescue is currently undergoing its 2026 reaccreditation assessment, including a peer assessment team review conducted on-site. A final accreditation decision is expected in August 2026.
