FIRETEAM TEST DUE 3/13/2022


South Metro Fire Rescue is seeking entry level and experienced Firefighters to join our organization for the upcoming Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 Academies.

THIS RECRUITMENT WILL FILL A TOTAL OF 60 VACANCIES FOR TWO OF OUR UPCOMING FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC ACADEMIES IN FALL OF 2022 AND SPRING OF 2023. 

PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT IF SELECTED YOU MUST BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN BOTH ACADEMIES AS YOU MAY NOT HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SELECT WHICH YOU WILL BE HIRED FOR.

 

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).
  • Must be 18 years of age by hire date of 9/6/2022.
  • Valid FireTEAM test score through 9/6/2022.
  • Valid CPAT certificate through 9/6/2022 and due by 3/21/2022.
  • Possess or be able to obtain a Colorado driver's license by 9/6/2022.
  • Possess and maintain an acceptable driving record in accordance with SMFR’s Driving Records Policy.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check, criminal history review, physical, fitness/wellness assessment, medical evaluation, drug screen and psychological exam.

 APPLICANTS POSSESSING AN EMT-B CERTIFICATE:

  • Must maintain a current Colorado EMT-B or National Registry certificate through December 2022.
  • Must maintain a valid CPR certificate from either AHA Basic Life support for the healthcare Provider or Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer through December 2022.

APPLICANTS POSSESSING AN EMT-P CERTIFICATE:

  • Must maintain a current Colorado EMT-P or National Registry Paramedic certificate through December 2022.
  • Must maintain a valid ACLS Provider certificate through December 2022.
  • Must maintain a valid CPR certificate from either AHA Basic Life support for the Healthcare Provider or Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer through December 2022.

HIRING PROCESS:

Step #1 FireTEAM TEST 

Candidates are required to take the FireTEAM test. The test is administered through the National Testing Network and available from 01/03/2022 to 03/13/2022Visit the FireTEAM website, identify a testing center near you and register to take the test.

  • Each candidate must complete the Work Attitude Questionnaire as part of the FireTEAM testing process. Candidates not completing this test will be eliminated from our testing process.

Step #2 CPAT 

  • Candidates are required to have a CPAT certificate that is valid and available to upload should the candidate be invited to apply by March 21, 2022. This same certificate must be valid through September 6, 2022.
  • Only a CPAT license by the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) and the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) will be accepted. South Metro Fire Rescue does not host the CPAT test. It is the candidate’s responsibility to obtain the certification on their own.

  1. All candidates will go through 16-week academy regardless of previous experience and everyone is paid the same wage during academy.

Approximately 10 hours of overtime per week

Upon Graduation of Academy

w/no or less than 3 years of experience

$21.40 / hour

w/3 years or more experience

$26.75 / hour

Additional Compensation

  • SMFR strongly values education and in turn compensates employees who have a degree with an education differential from date of hire as follows:
    • Associates 1% of base wage
    • Bachelors 3% of base wage
    • Masters 5% of base wage
    • PhD 6% of base wage
  • Experienced Firefighters 
    • We value previous paid firefighter experience and are willing to compensate our new hires based on the paid experience they bring to SMFR. 
    • To qualify for experienced Firefighter pay upon completion of our 16-week academy, applicants must have a least 3 years of paid experience as a firefighter (within the last 12 months) with a full-time fire service agency whose primary responsibility is fire protection and emergency medical service

This in no way implies or creates a contract of employment for the 5-year term, as all SMFR policies and procedures are applicable.
