Fire Inspections for State Licensing
The State of Colorado often requires a fire inspection to be completed as part of the licensing process for certain businesses. These inspections may be part of a new license request, a renewal of an existing license, or a modification to an existing license. Businesses that commonly require a fire inspection for state licensing purposes include:
- Childcare Facilities
- Adult Day Programs
- Residential Care Facilities
The State Licensing Inspection process is intended to ensure the building complies with the fire code for the proposed use. If you have been informed by the State of Colorado that you need to have a fire inspection completed, the following process applies:
- Complete the State Licensing Inspection Request Form.
- Upon receipt of the form, South Metro Fire Rescue will contact the State Licensing Agent for supporting documentation.
- South Metro Fire Rescue will determine, in conjunction with the local Building Department, if the current Occupancy Classification complies with the applicable codes.
- If a change to the Occupancy Classification is necessary, South Metro Fire Rescue will provide instructions on that process.
- If the existing Occupancy Classification is compliant, South Metro Fire Rescue will either arrange for a new fire inspection to be completed or will provide a recent fire inspection report for the building.
- Please call our office at 720-989-2230 or email licensing with any questions about this process.
