Adding a Contractor to a Permit
If the permit was applied for by a design professional or a permit expediting service and has not had a contractor's Accela account associated with it, fill out the Request to Add a Contractor to a Permit form. The contractor's account will be linked with that permit, which will allow for the issuance of a permit card, payment of fees, scheduling of inspections, etc.
Changing a Contractor on a Permit
If the permit was already issued to a contractor, but a different contractor will now be completing the project, proceed as follows:
- The original contractor must write a letter on their letterhead stating that they are releasing the permit to another contractor.
- The new contractor must write a letter on their letterhead stating that they are assuming responsibility for the permit from the previous contractor.
- Both letters must be emailed to our Permitting Office for review. Once processed, the changes will be made in Accela by SMFR personnel so the new contractor can proceed with the project.
Letters from building owners, business owners, property managers, design professionals, or any other party cannot be used to change contractors associated with a permit once it has been issued. If it is not possible to receive letters from both the original and the new contractor, then the original contractor's permit will be closed and the new contractor will need to apply for their own permit.
