LIFE SAFETY

The Life Safety Bureau staff maintains a high level of professional certifications including Uniform Fire Code Inspectors, Fire Suppression System Inspectors, Uniform Building Code Plan Reviewers, International Fire Code Inspectors, Medical Gas Inspectors, certified Fire Investigators, Hazardous Materials Technicians and a Fire Protection Specialist.

Developers and contractors with projects in our service area work with the Life Safety Bureau to ensure those projects meet current fire safety requirments. The Bureau is divided into three sections: Code Compliance, Development Services, and Public Education.  Bureau staff perform new construction plan reviews and construction-site inspections, fire code compliance inspections in existing commercial buildings, as well as investigations into the cause of fires. Public educators offer classes for adults, as well as age-appropriate safety lessons for school children.
