CHILD CARSEATS
Safety advocates say "the best carseat is the one that fits your child and your vehicle." If you're shopping for a safety seat, know your child's height and weight and compare those numbers against the specifications of the seat you want to buy. After that, make sure it fits your vehicle as some of the larger safety seats can be a tight fit in a smaller car. Our carseat technicians can help you learn the right way to install seats and fit your child snugly into them. Call 720.488.7200 and ask to speak to one of our public education specialists for more information. If you do not work or live in the South Metro service area, please look for a carseat technician in your area at this website - carseatscolorado.com.
South Metro Fire Rescue holds monthly carseat checks from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month. Theses are held at Station 34, which is at the corner of Yosemite and Maximus Drive just south of Park Meadows. This pdf file is the schedule.
Colorado law says a child must be in booster seat until she or he reaches 55 inches in height or turns six years old. We recommend that the child be in a booster seat until they are 57 inches (four feet, nine inches) tall, regardless of age, so that the vehicle seatbelt fits your child properly.
