The South Metro Fire Rescue Authority will be holding its first Citizen Academy this Spring. The academy is an opportunity for South Metro Fire Rescue Authority residents to get a first-hand look at what emergency services is all about. Participants will get an overview of the services the authority offers, an birds-eyes view of where their tax dollars are spent and experience hands on firefighting and CPR as well as learn safety tools that could save their lives and the lives of those they love.
While the schedule is not final, participants will learn how patients are extricated from an automobile after an accident, how fire sprinkler systems work, why firefighters cut holes in the roof of a burning building and so much more.
The authority’s Training Bureau will facilitate the academy, which runs seven weeks on Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. It begins April 28, 2010 and ends June 12, 2010. There is a $25 fee for materials, once your application is accepted.
The deadline for applications has been extended until March 19, 2010.
The Citizen Academy, we hope, is a useful and valuable tool for those who participate and for the community at large. We look forward to developing life-long partnerships with our citizens in fire and life safety in our community.
