BECOMING A FIREFIGHTER
Are you considering fire service employment with South Metro Fire Rescue? We offer great opportunities for Colorado-certified EMTs! Our diverse district includes major highways, a municipal airport, a recreational reservoir, high-rise buildings, single and multi-family dwellings as well as rural/wildland areas.
How about being a part of a specialized team? We currently have 6 distinctive teams serving our district -- Wildland Firefighting, Hazardous Materials, Urban Search & Rescue, Dive Rescue, Technical Rescue, and Aircraft Rescue and FireFighting.
Not only do we provide great employment opportunities, but our on going training programs are second to none. We invest a great deal of time to ensure that our firefighters maintain their certifications and keep pace with changing emergency and fire service issues.
Minimum qualifications for Firefighter Cadets are as follows: • High school diploma or GED; education beyond high school desirable • Minimum age is 21 years old • US citizenship • Colorado EMT-certified (Basic, Intermediate or Paramedic) For details regarding Colorado EMT certification, please visit the Colorado Department of Health and Environment website. • Valid Colorado driver’s license with satisfactory driving record • Ability to meet the rigorous academic, physical and performance standards of the Metro Fire Training Center and South Metro Fire Rescue
South Metro’s cadet testing process includes a written exam, a physical abilities test (CPAT – Candidate Physical Ability Test) and oral board interviews. South Metro Fire Rescue partners with Parker Fire Protection District to provide CPAT opportunities for our cadet applicants.
