The Fire Chief

Chief Dan QualmanDaniel Qualman is the Fire Chief of the newly formed (May, 2008) Parker-South Metro Fire Authority. Qualman has been leading both South Metro Fire Rescue and the Parker Fire Protection District since mid-October of 2007 when the two agencies began studying if a merger was possible. Qualman joined the Parker Fire Protection District in August 1986. He served as Assistant Chief of Fire Prevention from 1983 to 1986. He started his career in the fire service as a member of the John Brown University campus fire department in 1969. He served in the ranks of Captain and Assistant Chief of the Aubry Volunteer Fire Department in Stilwell, Kansas . He held the career position of Fire Marshal for the Leawood ( Kansas ) Fire department from 1978 to 1983.


Prior to his career fire service he worked for King Radio in design and testing of avionics from 1974 to 1978. Chief Qualman holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from John Brown University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Colorado at Denver . He is a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer and the Management of Fire Prevention Programs at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Chief Qualman is a Certified Fire Protection Specialist by National Fire Protection Association, Certified Building Plans Examiner and Code Council Certified Fire Inspector II by International Fire Code Institute.

The Assistant Fire Chief

South Metro Fire Rescue's interim Assistant Fire Chief is Michael Dell'Orfano. Chief Dell'Orfano is honored to help lead the organization during this time of change and transition. Chief Dell'Orfano joined South Metro in 2005 and previously served as the fire marshal for the fire district, overseeing all fire prevention activities including public education. He holds a Masters Degree in Fire Protection Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He served previously as Fire Marshal for the city of Thornton, Colorado. Chief Dell'Orfano has also been a volunteer/paid-call firefighter and a private fire investigator.
