Special Teams

Tech Rescue


SMFR’s Tech Rescue Team is equipped and trained to provide assistance in structural collapse, rope (high and low angle) rescue, trench rescue, confined space, dive rescue, swift water rescue, sustained rapid intervention operations, and complicated vehicle extrication. 
 

Hazmat


SMFR has an effective and efficient hazmat program for protecting the community from hazards associated with fires and uncontrolled release of hazardous and toxic materials.  SMFR employs a shared approach to response and planning by relying upon cooperation between internal divisions and external agencies.

Emergency & Disaster Management


SMFR has an emergency management coordinator that in cooperation with Arapahoe and Douglas Counties, is responsible for emergency operation plans designed to protect the community from natural and man-made large-scale emergencies and disasters.

Aircraft Rescue Firefighting


The Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) Team is based out of Stations 35 (Arapahoe & Peoria) and 44 (Lincoln Avenue & Peoria) with three specialty apparatus.  The teams responds to Centennial Airport, along with crews from other SMFR stations, on any aircraft-related incident.

Water Rescue


The SMFR Dive Team consists of a dedicated, professionally trained team ready to respond to surface water rescue, ice rescue, and for all water-related incidents.  Twenty-nine members make up the team which utilized specialized tools and equipment for rescue and recovery operations.
