Explorers

The South Metro Fire Rescue Explorer program gives young individuals, ages 16 to 21, the unique opportunity to gain valuable insight into the fire service and experience what it is like to be a firefighter through hands-on training and other career development activities. Explorers will learn about the physical and mental demands of being a first responder and get the chance to start on the path toward becoming a future SMFR firefighter.

History of the Program

In June of 2005, the Parker Fire Protection District, in cooperation with Learning for Life, launched its Explorers Program, giving 15 individuals the opportunity to gain experience in the fire service. Since the merger, SMFR has continued to operate the program but no longer partners with the Boy Scouts of America.
